FUELPHORIA’s Algae-to-Biodiesel Research Presented at AgEng2024 in Athens

6 July 2024

FUELPHORIA proudly featured its algae-to-biodiesel research at the Agricultural Engineering challenges in existing and new agroecosystems (AgEng2024) conference, held in Athens on July 1-4 2024. FUELPHORIA’s partner, Petros Samaras from International Hellenic University (IHU) presented the project’s third demo case; biodiesel production from algae.

This demo focuses on innovative biodiesel production from algae, exploring advanced methods to enhance methane production by mitigating ammonia inhibition in anaerobic digestion. Petros’s poster, “Innovative Technologies to Eliminate Ammonia Inhibition in Anaerobic Digestion in Order to Enhance Methane Production: Energy Recovery from Microalgae Production,” shed light on cutting-edge advancements in the field of clean energy and resource valorisation.

This event follows another recent presentation by Petros, who introduced FUELPHORIA at a June 20 workshop organized by BIOMETHAVERSE in Thessaloniki, Greece, under the title “FUELPHORIA: The Microalgae Valorization Towards Biodiesel Production.”

Both poster presentations emphasise FUELPHORIA’s contributions as a Horizon Europe-funded Innovation Action Project to establish sustainable and secure value chains for advanced biofuels.
